And for nudging me to start this blog.
As for absorption -- looks like it's here to stay, so enjoy it!
I feel the same as Claire, see Comment #9. I like Canada's Cultural Mosaic, too. Very artistic-sounding :-)Nina Rimon Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07611966428346591291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2444479205321497707.post-79228270931820581262008-03-05T17:52:00.000+02:002008-03-05T17:52:00.000+02:00First of all, Nina...welcome back! At the risk of ...First of all, Nina...welcome back! At the risk of embarrassing you, I'm so happy over you opening up this blog and giving us back our "national treasure" (not my words; someone else's as she once described you).

Down to business: What the heck is wrong with "absorbing" immigrants? If there's something objectionable about that word, sorry, I truly don't catch it. Someone please open my eyes here.

A Google search on 'absorb immigrants' returns a page with nine foreign web pages (including Oxford) that refer to countries absorbing immigrants (including the US and Ireland).

And the workarounds to avoid using the word 'absorption' seem quite contrived. "Absorption" is a direct, simple, and understandable word that seems to successfully describe what we do with immigrants.

I look forward to reading more entries on this blog. I've always found your content absorbing, and that's a positive thing.Harv Frankelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12149252505450731469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2444479205321497707.post-70849204000072681782008-03-05T17:47:00.001+02:002008-03-05T17:47:00.001+02:00This comment has been removed by the author.Harv Frankelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12149252505450731469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2444479205321497707.post-77999257045232936882008-03-05T17:47:00.000+02:002008-03-05T17:47:00.000+02:00This comment has been removed by the author.Harv Frankelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12149252505450731469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2444479205321497707.post-46035560723279378422008-03-05T15:49:00.000+02:002008-03-05T15:49:00.000+02:00Love your blog, Nina! It's now part of my 'Favorites'....
As for "Absorption Issues", why not circumvent the problem altogether, namely why not simply call it The Ministry of Immigration or - as in Canada, for example - the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, or the Department of Immigration... Obviously the Ministry/Department is there to welcome or turn away immigrants and to process/review applications (NOT the applicants themselves)...
Jennifer TommerJenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01187106938637724680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2444479205321497707.post-6958856565306363552008-03-05T12:24:00.000+02:002008-03-05T12:24:00.000+02:00Love your new blog.
